Trying to overcome both adolescent and a life altering condition at the same time, and searching for happiness, acceptance and somewhere to belong, pretty much encapsulates Kimberly Akimbo. A well adjusted blend of Comedy and Drama.
Originally Kimberly first first appeared on broadway November 10, 2022. “Kimberly” giving an association of strength and nobility, and “Akimbo” a stance of classic hand on hip pose, envisions the challenge Kimberly is facing, and the strength she is building.
Played by Victoria Clark, a well regarded Americal Actress and Singer, with hit productions likeThe Light in the Piazza, Cinderella, and Caroline, or Change. The actress has gained various awards including the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical, Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Actress in a Musical, Outer Critics Circle Award, and many more.
With Victoria’s knack of casting, David Lindsay-Abaire’s scriptwrite and musical gift, and Jessica Stone’s astonishing storytelling - Kimberly has been brought to life so beautifully. Kimberly is a Girl trapped in a 72-year-old elderly lady, and a teen trying to live every day as its the last. Following asking a friend about his newborn niece and, And getting the response “she’s amazing—she’s like this little old woman trapped in a baby’s body”, David Lindsay-Abaire thought "what a great idea for a Theate".
Kimberly Akimbo is a performance that presented Off-Broadway at the Manhattan Theatre Club NYC on February 4, 2003. Starred by Victoria Clark, and Directed by Jessica Stone, widely acknowledged for his ablity for bonding humor and hard reality.
The tale begins in 1999 in suburban New Jersey, a teen called Kimberly was born with a disorder that made her 4.5x more than she actually is. Struggling with a terrifying reality to experience mortality and adolescence simulataniously.
Unlike the rare clinical condition, she is struggling with, Kimberly is rarely seen taken care of in her life, in fact, you will see her unselfishly consumed by her family’s irresponsibility, which places her in various emotional burdens including psychological strain, financial troubles, isolation, and the need for belongingness. Despite this, she demonstrates great resilience, empathy, determination, courage, and above all high spirits.
Prominently known for asking meaningful queries about mortality, self, and family.
Kimberly has the power to pull out the outcast in everyone, the outsider we all felt at some point and the origin story of what we are today.
