Origins

Kimberly is a Teenager trapped in a 72-year-old elderly lady, and a teen that has decided to live every day as if its the last. Following asking a friend about his newborn niece and, And getting the response “Oh, she’s amazing—she’s like this little old woman trapped in a baby’s body”, David Lindsay-Abaire thought of "Kimberly Akimbo" for the first time.

Kimberly Akimbo is a musical that premiered Off-Broadway at the Manhattan Theatre Club New York City on February 4, 2003. Starred by Victoria Clark, and Directed by Jessica Stone, widely acknowledged for his ablity for marrying humor and harsh reality.

Story

The story took place in 1999 in suburban New Jersey, a teenager called Kimberly was born with a disorder that made her age four and a half times than she actually is. Struggling with a terrifying reality to experience mortality and adolescence at the same time.

Unlike the rare clinical condition, she is struggling with, Kimberly is rarely the center of attention in her life, in fact, you will see her unselfishly consumed by her family’s irresponsibility, which places her in various emotional pressures including psychological strain, financial struggle, isolation, and the need for belongingness. Highlighting her resilience, empathy, determination, courage, and above all humor.
